4 Ways to Keep Active at Work

The typical desk job can see sitting for hours upon hours, which can result in body aches and muscle stiffness over time. Keeping active during your workdays is one way that you can combat these issues. The reality is we spend a majority of our day at work and most times by the time we get home we are completely tired from our busy day that exercising is literally the last thing on our mind.

So here 4 tips to help you keep active while you are at work:

  • Take the stairs - Yes, I know it's easier to take the elevator especially if you'll have to take more than 3 flights of stairs. But the truth is you can still take stairs for a part of your journey then take the elevator. While for persons who have 3 floors or less try and make a conscious effort to take the stairs before work, after work, or even both if you are able to.

  • Move around More Frequently - Even though your job requires you to be at your desk try allocating time for walk breaks. One way to do this is to drink more water, the more water you consume the more bathroom breaks you will take. Another way to do this is to accept personal calls away from your desk or instead of calling a colleague on the same floor or department, you can walk over to them. This also helps to give your eyes a break.

  • Walk to Lunch - This is definitely a go way to get active and get a breath of fresh air. This especially goes for lunch spots that are in close proximity to your workplace. So instead of driving or getting it delivered go ahead and go for a walk.

  • Get Up and Stretch - Now I'm not talking about a 30min or an hour stretch. I'm simply talking about a 5-minute stretch, also keeping in mind that you're in a work setting. So stand up stretch your arms, legs, neck, fingers. You can do this throughout the day especially those busy days that you may not get to move about much.

This year, let's make the effort to keep ourselves as active and alert, as possible as we work, not only to do well at our jobs, but to also take care of ourselves!
