PAJE: We're curious, what was it that made you decide that you were going to follow Jesus wholeheartedly?
Nicholet: After being saved at an early age, I walked away from the presence of God due to peer pressure. The real conviction came when I was hit with some serious struggles that could have caused me to lose my mind. It was there and then, it was as if, the Lord gave me an ultimatum, serve me or let the devil take you out. As I continued to grow in the Lord, the trials came that made me become dependent on God especially when He was all I could depend on. I begin to realize that the benefits from the kingdom can only be derived if I pursue Him with my whole heart.
PAJE: Following Jesus is one thing, but branching out on a path that is quite unique in order to bring glory to His name is a whole other ball-game. What made you decide that you were going to be in Ministry in order to reach more souls for the Kingdom?
Nicholet: I think the ministry has a way of calling us. For me, there was a hunger for reaching out for souls.I believe I have been forgiven much so I am concerned about people going to hell.I can describe it, like a fire welling up inside me that moved me to go in this direction. I have also been mentored by great men and women in ministry who helped to stir me in this direction. I dream it, I feel it and the leading of the Holy Spiirt propelled me to go all the way with God.
The results also, I have seen so many lives being changed because I surrendered to the call.I have seen people bow in the presence of God whenever I minister in song or through the word. I have seen the manifestation of the glory of God in church services, concerts and so on, and I know that I am called to this area.
PAJE: Speaking of Ministry, what has the overall journey been like honouring God in this way?
Nicholet: So as you may have noticed ministry for me is holistic. It is never just one area, it seems five-fold to me.
I am humbled to know that God has chosen me to use me in so many ways; singing, preaching, mentoring, delivering, and motivating.
It has been a ride of highs and lows. For any great task, there will be challenges, oppositions, naysayers, delays, and setbacks but God will honour you if you honour Him. And this is it, I have seen so many moments of triumphs as I honor God with my surrender.
Sometimes, I feel discouraged especially when I have given so much, yet betrayed by those whom I have given so much to but nevertheless strengthened by God who reminded me that I was called by Him.
So I had to learn to put my feelings on the back burner and press on knowing that my reward is really in heaven.
Ministry can never be about feelings, because sometimes, you are not going to feel like doing it.
PAJE: What would you say are the three top things that have kept you grounded in your relationship with Jesus Christ even through the changing seasons?
Nicholet: Three top things that have kept me grounded in my relationship with Jesus even through the changing seasons.
Prayer: I have developed a prayer life where I made a decision that I am going to pray without ceasing. So I am driving and praying, walking and praying, cleaning and praying. I really decided that I was going to really pray. This is the driving factor.
Worship: I am a praise and worship leader at my church and worship has carried me through some really rough days in my life. Worship is now my lifestyle, It does not matter where I am am, I will lift up praises to God. Worship will bring the answer to many questions I have been asking God.
Fellowship with believers: believe it or not, we need people in order to be grounded. No one makes it alone, there is power in synergy, collaboration, and agreement. Church is my oasis, there I will get a word from God about my situation, and there I will get to speak with fellow believers who are going through what I face. The church I attend is prophetic, so I am also able to get a glimpse into where I am on the journey or the next level.
PAJE: What would you say to the person who has received a specific idea from the Lord but they honestly don't know where to start or if it even makes sense?
Nicholet: My strategy is just start. I will say, start doing what you can do. So if what you can do is research, just research. Never be afraid to ask for help, sometimes you need help from someone who has been where you want to go. Step out by faith, after all, you can either fail or succeed, and trust me, you will not fail in God.
PAJE: On this ministry journey, there are a lot of things that many people experience which would be seen as both victories and disappointments. What would you say are the 3 key things to building and maintaining an effective ministry through the highs and lows?
Nicholet:
Knowing who called you: this is deeper than saying I know God. It is that heart-to-heart connection with God that says if God calls me to it, He will see to it. He is the author and the finisher of what He starts in me. It is imperative to know God because oftentimes, the journey becomes lonely, especially when the promises seem delayed or just not coming through. I often say ministry is a marathon and your cheerleaders will not always be with you all the way, especially when you seem to be losing. This is when you have to dig deep and rely on that one word from God that brought you into the race, in the first place.
Faith: for without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him (Hebrews 11:6). You cannot be effective without faith. To even pray is to have faith, you cannot speak to what you do not believe. People must see the authentic you, leading a life of faith so that they can have faith in your God. If God did it for you, He can do it for me. You must be a living testimony.
Humility: longevity in ministry will take humility. You cannot flaunt your gifts, talents, and abilities to others. I always say God does not need me to fulfill His plan on Earth. He could have used anyone. However, He has chosen me because He wants to bless me and for this I am grateful. I have seen many anointed leaders fall due to pride and arrogance. The thought of God using them through miracles, signs and wonders has led them to treat people unfairly and with disrespect. They become high-minded. The way to the top is humility, the way down is pride. A ministry must be maintained through reliance on God in all you. When things are high, stay humble and when things are high, stay humble. Humble calf, suck the most milk!
BONUS: Love people…you need people to help you with areas in ministry in order to prevent burnout. If you are a minister who likes to do everything alone, you will not make it very far.I have a team that I often delegate responsibilities to that brings accountability.
PAJE: What would you say are the specific arms of ministry that you have and what has given you that final nudge to say "Yes, this is what I am to be doing"?
Nicholet: Singing, preaching, mentoring, motivating, prophetic
The final nudge has to do with discerning seasons through the voice of God. He often communicates to me through dreams, revelations, or just that inner voice that says, do this now. For each arm that I mentioned, they were birthed in seasons. When I first started, I was just singing in the four walls of my church. However, I did it with a spirit of excellence. God will promote you when you serve well with the much you have been given. The more came, as I dug deeper into the things of God. I always wanted more, for me, I was always looking for the next move in God. My relationship with God allowed me to know His voice. If you are hungry for souls, He will open avenues for you to reach them. The internet has opened so many platforms for the gospel to reach the nations, that believers have no excuse.
PAJE: Over the past 3-4 years, especially, many Christians have had their faith tested in multiple ways. What are the 3 biggest lessons you have learned in the last 3 years?
Nicholet: Three biggest lessons I have learned in the last three years:
1.Persecution is a blessing-Though, it seems that God is punishing us, usually after a period of persecution, there comes the lifting for you. God’s thoughts and ways are higher than ours, so He knows what to allow in order for us to grow.
2. No one is coming to rescue you. In order to reach your goal you have to get up and put faith and action to the test. Having faith alone will not do it, you have to get up off the couch, get up out of dreaming and actually put the work in. God will meet you with what you have.
3. This too shall pass: nothing last forever. Whatever storms you are walking through, has its expiry date. I can use the first line of a single i released in 2022. It says, “I see my storms out of rain…” The storm will run out of rain if you stay in prayer. God will never give you more than you can bear.
Wow, thanks so much for sharing your heart with us, Nicholet! PAJE Fam, be sure to support her as she presses forward in ministry!
