The Reservoir of Grace

When I think about grace, I often recall a compelling statement made by Mr. Harold Minott, a late friend of mine. He said, "For every drop of sin, there is a reservoir of grace." This striking phrase expresses the limitless nature of God's grace, which is always greater than sin. It informs us that no matter how deep our sins, God's grace is always deeper, more encompassing, and more bountiful.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the apostle Paul clearly expresses this truth: "And he said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, I would much rather take pride in my weaknesses so that I can experience the power of Christ." In this context, grace is not only an act of heavenly favor but also the foundation of a believer's conviction. God's grace is most apparent when we are at our weakest, perfecting His strength within us and giving us the strength to maintain our faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9 provides additional insight into the essence of grace: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." This verse emphasizes that grace is not something we can earn through our deeds or merits; rather, it is a gift freely provided by God as a demonstration of His unbounded love for humanity. Our salvation is a demonstration of this grace, made possible by faith and independent of our own efforts.

"But God commended his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" Romans 5:8. Through Christ's death, grace was made available to humanity, confirming God's loving character as He extended His hand to us in our sinfulness and provided us with salvation through the death of His Son. The promise of God's grace is a constant source of strength for believers rather than a one-time occurrence. We are further encouraged in Hebrews 4:16, "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." God's grace is also a source of strength that keeps us going through difficult times, is readily available, as this call to boldly approach the throne of grace in adversity clearly shows.

Although the wellspring of grace is limitless, we must not take it for granted. Romans 6:1-2 cautions us, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue to sin so that grace may abound? God forbid. How can we, who have died to sin, exist there any longer?" The above passage reminds us that grace is not a license to sin, but rather a call to righteous life. In practical terms, we ought to develop an attitude of obedience and thankfulness, recognizing God's grace every day through worship, prayer, and Bible study.

We are to revere and not misuse the grace we have received by regularly examining ourselves, looking for accountability in our faith communities, and trying to live with an attitude of gratitude for Christ's love towards us. Remember that although grace is freely offered, it also demands more of us, manifesting the transformational power of God's love in our lives.

To sum up, the idea of a "reservoir of grace" provides an authoritative reminder of the scope and completeness of God's grace. It gives us comfort in knowing that there is always more grace available to us, regardless of the severity of our transgressions. As a gift from God, grace is the cornerstone of our faith and the life-giving force that enables us to live successful lives. Embracing this grace and drawing from its inexhaustible supply, let us live confident in God's unceasing mercy and goodness.
