There is no set way to have devotion; it's completely personable and what works for one person may not work for another, especially considering the fact that everyone has different schedules, ways of expressing themselves, relationships with God, etc. However, there are a few key things that can be included to allow you to more purposefully use and maintain the time spent with God. Let's see what these main things include.
Figure out the very best time you can dedicate to God.
This must be a time where you are settled, not in a rush and most importantly not too tired. This will help with consistency because if if you pick a time when you know you'll be tired, you may be tempted to skip a day or even fall asleep mid-chapter or mid prayer. I know we've all done that one or a couple hundred times, haha.
Have a set space/place to have devotion
Have devotion in a quiet space where you can be alone in the quiet and therefore be away from all external distractions - and yes, that includes your phone, so of course, this works best with a physical Bible.
Understand exactly how you connect and express yourself with God
Do you need music? Do you need to be by the beach? Do you need to watch a sermon first? Make sure that you remember that specific element so that you're not just trying to recreate the way someone else's devotional life looks.
Have a journal
Writing down your thoughts as you read your bible may help you retain what you've read and help you express thoughts you may have about the topic discussed in the chapter. You can always go back to your notes to discuss topics with your friends.
BONUS TIP: You may even take delight in writing your prayers. Take note of those that the Lord has has answered and use them as testimonies to encourage those around you.
